Mrs. Binkley's Weekly Memo To Parents - 11/25/18

Hello Harding Parents,

I hope that you have had a nice, restful week with your families.  This next month is short but full of fun celebrations and highlights.

As we continue to evaluate our students learning we are pleased to share with you that on an average, all classes grades 2nd through 6th have grown over 100 lexiles in reading which is the equivalent growth an average student acquires in one year!   In addition, our current college and career readiness data has doubled in the past two years.   We are proud of the continued upward trend of success in reading at HUPS!

Our third awards ceremony will be this Friday.  Students have through Tuesday to take their last AR tests that will count towards November medals and certificates.  Thank you for making reading important in your home.

  • We recently practiced a Lock Out drill.
    • A lock out drill is used in the event that there may be a safety issue (such as an animal on campus or a police event in the neighborhood) but where the students are not in immediate danger.
    • When we call this drill, doors are locked and no students can leave until the threat is mitigated.
    • We will post a sign on all main doors indicating that we are in lock out also meaning that no adults can come into the school.
  • The School Site Council will evaluate our 18-19 Saftey Plan which will be made public via our web site once approved by all stakeholders.
California Healthy Kids Survey (CHKS)
  • Please complete this parent survey.  We have had only 31 parent responses and we need 65 more.  Thank you for taking 10 minutes to complete the survey.  If you need technical support, Monica Solis, in the library can help you.  She will have surveys set up waiting for parents to come in the morning.
  • If you can complete it at home, the survey instructions are attached.
  • Also, if you are a parent of a 5th or 6th grader, please make sure that you sign the permission slip to allow your child to take the student survey.  The district is asking that we have a 95% response rate from all 5th and 6th graders.
